Video Library
The following are videos that can be integrated into library lessons for the middle elementary grades 3-5.
1. Proper Book Care: At the beginning of the year, students always need a refresher on the proper care of their library books. A video showing actual students is more interesting than a review from me.
2. Fiction Book Organization: This video provides an excellent visual example demonstrating how to find the fiction and picture books in the library. This is a very practical example to help the students find a book using the call numbers and guide labels that are similar to how our school library is set up.
3. Dewey for Kids: This video on the Dewey Decimal System can be incorporated into lessons on non-fiction books and how they are located in the library.
4. Library of Congress: My students love to read the I Survived books by Lauren Tarshis. This video shows actual footage after the San Francisco Earthquake and Fire of 1906. By viewing this video from the Library of Congress while studying realistic fiction, the students can gain a clearer picture of the events that occur in the book I Survived the San Francisco Earthquake, 1906 and compare and contrast the book with the real live footage.
5. NASA provides a variety of videos and resources on Earth and space that can be used in library lessons and to help classroom teachers meet state science standards and complete science projects.

6. Instructables: This site houses a variety of DIY project videos. In my library, I am starting to introduce a makerspace area. My students love to create origami. These videos will be helpful to my students as they come up with new project ideas.
7. During their biography unit, my students love to read the Who Was? and Who Is? books. After reading the books, the students can search for and watch videos about their person in order to learn more information to include in their project.
8. One of the library centers, I have set up is a story listening station. The students always love to listen and follow along with stories. I have set up the Storyline Online website on the iPads. This website provides videos of stars reading a variety of picture books.
9. This music video is a great introduction before lessons on reference materials and when to use them.
10. KET (Kentucky Educational Television) provides the online tool PBS Learning Media. This site offers a student learning portal and a suite of tools for educators. This video is one that will be used as we study Bats during the month of October.
