Game Based Learning--4th Grade Library
This game was created in Scratch. It could be used as a pre-assessment in the beginning of the year to see how much the students recall regarding library orientation skills such as how to search using the online catalog, book genres, identifying reference books, how fiction and non-fiction books are shelved in the library, and the parts of a book. The students could also play the game following library orientation lessons to reinforce these skills. The game could be played with the whole class on the SmartBoard. Students could also play the game individually on computers in a computer lab. Students can compete against each other to see who gets the highest score and who can answer all 15 questions before time runs out. After awhile, the students might memorize the questions and answers so the questions would need to be changed. This is pretty easy to do inside the program so the game could be tailored to reinforce a variety of library skills.
